Thank you to The Nest in Hastings, New Zealand for sharing your beautiful images of your beautiful spaces. They clearly show how an Early Childhood space doesn't have to look like a school. Here it is warm, cosy and friendly, with welcoming spaces where children feel at home.
Kimberley Crisp andher team believe there are two things children in early childhood care need - warm nurturing relationships followed by a warm nurturing home away from home environment and a garden. The team re-use and up-cycle wherever they can - this is part of their commitment to caring for our environment.
Here are some images of the warm environment children discover as they walk through the door. A comfortable lounge area, contains relaxing sofas and cushions. The blue couches are used to create a snug, cosy corner, a place to climb up, snuggle in, relax and unwind. The space accommodates children aged between 3 -6 years. You will notice retro illustrations on the wall replacing didactic charts - you won't find alphabet and colour charts on the wall ins the lounge - because its 'home' not school. There is a photograph of Dr Emmi Pikler on the wall, as Pikler is an inspiration for all the teachers/ educators....more
